Antrim Hurling League Division 3   12th April 2009
Carey 2-10 Lamh Dearg 3-17
We opened our All County League campaign with a home defeat against a strong Hannastown side.  Despite a fairly even first half, we went in at half time 1-5 to 2-6 in arrears, with the goal coming from Colin Smith in the 12th minute.  One of the highlights of this half was the performance of the young James Black, making his league debut, and picking off a fine long distance point.  Other scorer's in this half were 4 points from the stick of Martin Hunter. The second half was only four minutes old, when Colin Smith had the sides level, with a well taken goal, followed by a point.  A Brendan Herron point was cancelled out by Ciaran Mc Caughan, to leave the sides level again, but unfortunately this was to be Carey's last score for eight minutes, while during this time the visitors edged ahead with four unanswered points, all from Michael Herron frees. The discipline of the Carey lads, was to prove a major factor, as they were frequently blown-up for silly fouls, with Herron missing absolutely nothing from the resultant frees.  Further points from Martin Hunter and Ciaran Mc Caughan were all we could muster, as a late Liam Kelly goal gave the City men their first win in Carey for a long time. Carey Scorers: Martin Hunter                         0-5 Colin Smith                 2-2 Ciaran Mc Caughan    0-2 James Black                0-1
