A goal in each half was the necessary ingredient for Carey to take the points off the Derry Kingpins. The opening goal came from young James Black, and Carey went on to lead 1-5 to 1-2 at the half way stage.
Carey ran into a sticky patch during the second half, allowing Slaughtneil to take a slender lead with just 5 minutes remaining. Martin Mc Auley came to the rescue with the second goal 8 minutes from time, to give us a narrow two point win..
Best for a very young Carey side were James Black, Steven Mc Ginn, Sean Mc Laughlin, and Colin Smyth.
