U14 Feile na nGael 'B' Final   9th May 2009
Glenshesk 3-04 Glenarm 1-02
FEILE 'B' FINAL GLENSHESK v GLENARM At a windswept Pairc Mhic Uilinn old rivals Glenshesk and Glenarm met in the Feile na nGael 'B' Final on Saturday last. Both teams had qualified for the final by finishing in the top two of their group so there was little to separate them in the form book. Home advantage may have originally been in Glenshesk's favour but due to a waterlogged pitch the match was changed to Ballycastle. Both sets of supporters were eagerly looking forward to the throw in and the possibility of progressing to the County stage of this prestigious competition.

Immediately from the off Glenshesk went on the offensive with Conor O Kane narrowly shooting wide from a 65. A few minutes later the early pressure from Glenshesk paid off with a well-taken point from Fiachra Mc Veigh from 20 yds out .O Kane then followed this with a lovely point to atone for his earlier missed chance. Glenshesk were now beginning to exert more influence and, backed by the breeze, the Glenarm defence were under almost constant pressure. There was no respite as Johnny O Kane received the ball on the edge of the box and let go a well struck shot to leave the Glenarm keeper having to pick the ball out of the back of the net. With their confidence growing Glenshesk were dominant in most areas and added another point and a great solo effort for a goal from Conleth Mc Veigh. The only blot on their first half performance was an injury to Tomás Burns just before the half time whistle which led to him being replaced by Johnny Black. Both teams went off at the mid-point with Glenshesk leading 2-03 to 0-00.

Following the restart there was to be no let-up for the unfortunate Glenarm men. Within a minute Glenshesk had a free taken out on the right wing which found Conleth Mc Veigh on the edge of the small box and he promptly dispatched the ball to the net . As Glenarm continued to battle gamely against the tide the wind seemed to alter direction and cause problems for both teams. However in the 24th minute Martin Jamison picked up the ball in midfield and set off on a solo run and placed the ball over the bar. This was to be the last score for Glenshesk as Glenarm began to rally. They started their comeback with a converted free and followed this up by a strike that took a wicked deflection of a Glenshesk caman to end up in the corner of the net. This seemed to shake Glenshesk slightly and Glenarm continued to press forward as the clock ticked on. With a minute to go this pressure resulted in another well taken point from 30 yds out. But time was running out and as the ref blew for full time Glenshesk emerged worthy winners on a scoreline of 3-04 to 1-02.

Best for the winners were P.Mc Bride , O. Hill , C O' Kane , M. Jamison and C. Mc Veigh. The Glenarm keeper P. Abram played well and Jake Hamill also delivered a strong performance from the half-back line. Glenshesk now look forward to the next stage of the competition in Casement against Creggan next week.
