| Antrim Hurling League Division 3 |
|
27th May 2009 |
| Carey 0-15 Sarsfields 2-6 |
This was our seventh straight, consecutive victrory, and a very important one at that. The Shaw's Road outfit came here as the Division leaders. An early point for the visitors was cancelled out by six points in sucession from Nat Hunter, Steven Mc Ginn, Colin Smyth, and 3 from Martin Mc Auley. However, a 24th minute goal from Sean Og Mc Guinness brought Sarsfields back into the game. An Emmett Hunter point gave us a 0-7 to 1-3 lead at half-time.
Further points from Martin, Cathal, and Martin again stretched the lead to four, but a couple of frees kept the physical and sometimes over robust City side in contention.
With Colm Mc Bride playing a 'stormer' at full-back, and Ciaran Mc Caughan and Emmett holding the Sarsfields half forwards out, it was no surprise when we entered the final ten minutes holding a 4 point lead again. With Emmett landing over two 80m points and another couple from Rory Mc Bride and Martin, Sarsfileds had received a late boost when Gareth Ward found the Carey net with a 20m free. However, with time running out, Big Marty had the 'final say', with an excellent point from play.
Carey Scorer's:
Nat Hunter 0-1
Steven Mc Ginn 0-1
Collie Smyth 0-1
Marty Mc Auley 0-7
Emmett Hunter 0-3
Rory Mc Bride 0-1
Cathal Mc Auley 0-1
This now concludes the first half of the League, and we are now clear leaders at the top.
The main talking point of the season, so far, is the performance of the young lads on the Panel. James Black, Steven Mc Ginn, Shane Mc Cambridge, Chris Butler, James Mc Quaige and Kevin Hardaker have all adapted well and are a credit to the team, and to themselves. Well done lads!
