Match report:

After a rocky start to their league campaign Gort na Mona were keen to get a second win under their belts and the visitors came racing out of the blocks and found the back of the net after just 2 minutes when a soft shot dropped in over the keepers hand. They followed this up with a couple of wides before another high shot was dropped in and Steven McGinn blocked it down where Ward was waiting to hit the ball into the back of the net again after 6 minutes. 2mins later Ward added a point to lead by 7 and Carey who were clearly shaken by Gort na Mona's quick start had yet to get on the scoreboard. A 45 metre free in the 8th minute was converted by Emmet Hunter and with Carey now on the scoreboard the home side started to settle a little and 2mins later Ciaran McCaughan found the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 3. Within the next 4mins Carey sent over 3 points to level proceedings at the 14 and a half minute mark. Gort na Mona replied straight away with another Ward point to regain their slight lead. The visiting keeper was forced to make a save when Emmet Hunter went low from a 20 metre free after 17mins. 45 seconds later a brilliant, accurate ball from Cathal McAuley found the unmarked Emmet Hunter who levelled things once again. Carey then won a free in their own half which James Black sent up the field and Ciaran McCaughan collected and sent over the bar for Carey to take the lead for the first time in this match. Approaching 23mins of play Ward converted a free to square things up for the third time in this half. The Gort na Mona keeper sent over a long range free from well inside their own half but a minute later Carey converted a free of their own to leave the sides with 10 points apiece and 4mins left on the clock. Gort na Mona ended the half on the attack and scored 1 more point among a couple of wides to take a slender 1 point lead into the break.

Half time score: Carey 1.7 Gort na Mona 2.5

Both sides started the second half with a wide. Then after 2 and a half minutes halftime Carey substitute Martin McAuley got on the scoreboard. Approaching 10mins Emmet converted another free to take the lead. Carey were on the attack but hit a few wides before adding another point from a converted free approaching 17mins. Gort na Mona's Ward sent a sideline wide. Then Chrissy Butler made a great catch in midfield, sent the ball up to Colin Smyth before making the run up the field to receive the ball back from Colly to send it over the bar. With Carey continuing to pressurise Gort na Mona's keeper was forced to make another save. Gort na Mona went down the other end of the pitch and added a point before Carey forced Gort's keeper to make another save. Gort na Mona were now trying to chip away at Carey's lead and added another point after 24mins to reduce the gap to just 1. Due to numerous stoppages there were a few minutes added time and Carey converted a free 3mins into this to make sure of the result and the 2 points. This was a hard earned win for the home side and Carey managed to come from behind and grind out a win.

Carey then also had a couple of wides, 1 from a sideline cut and the other a half volley from Christopher Butler. After just 7mins of play Emmet Hunter caught the ball and sent it into the forward line to Colin Smyth who sent it to the back of the net. Half a minute later Carey converted another long range free to lead by 6. Sarsfields just couldn't find the target and over the next 5 minutes of play hit 4 wides before eventually getting on the scoreboard after 16mins with a point by Daniel McKiernan. Carey hit another wide from a sideline cut before James McCouaig won the ball in midfield and ran up the wing, then across the endline before passing the ball to Christopher Butler who drove the ball into the top right hand corner of the net for Carey's second goal of the evening. Christopher followed this up straight away with a point to lengthen Carey's lead to 9. Another long range Carey free was converted before play went up the other end of the pitch and the home keeper was forced to make a save but was unable to stop the rebound by Mark Rea to reduce the deficit to 7. This goal fired up the visitors and they forced Steven to make another great save and force a 65' which Caolin Caldwell pointed. Carey ended the match with 2 further points interspersed by a pointed free from Caldwell again to leave 7 between the sides going into the break.

Half time score: Carey 2.7 Sarsfields 1.3

Once again within a couple of seconds of the restart Carey won a 70 metre free which Emmet sent between the posts. 2 minutes later halftime sub Kevin Murphy set Emmet up for another point. Ryan O'Neill got Sarsfields second half scoring off the mark with a point after 5 minutes but Carey replied straight away with a point of their own. Tommy Devlin set Cathal McAuley up for his over the shoulder point 2 minutes later. Caldwell sent Sarsfields 70 metre free wide approaching 10mins but made no mistake a minute later from a 20 metre free sending it over the bar. This proved to be Sarsfields last score of the game as Carey then went on the rampage and in a 2min period sent 4 points over the bar. Carey found the back of the net for the third time just after 15mins courtesy of Tommy Devlin who received the pass from Cathal McAuley. 30secs later James Black made a fantastic catch around midfield from Sarsfields puckout and sent it back up the pitch over the bar. After 17 and a half mins Kevin Murphy forced the Sarsfields goalie to make a save but Tommy Devlin was on hand for the rebound and slide across the ground to send the ball into the back of the net for the 4th time. In the last 10mins Sarsfields tried to turn things around but hit a couple more wides. Steven McGinn was called into action on two further occasions to deny Sarsfields any comeback and the home side finished with a deserved 20 point victory.

A minute later Carey's Daniel McAllister converted a free from midfield and Loughgiel replied with another point. The home side replied straight away with a point by Colin Smyth set up by Kevin Murphy. Still on the attack Carey hit the post and Conleth McVeigh managed to keep the ball in play for Colin Smyth to find the back of the net to increase the gap to 4. With the bit between their teeth Carey added a further 2 points to lead by 6 after 22 minutes but Loughgiel weren't lying down, kept pressing and the ball was cleared a couple of times but not far enough as Loughgiel scored a hard earned point. Carey added a further point but Loughgiel ended this half strongly with 3 unanswered points to leave just the goal between the sides.

Half time score: Carey 1.9 Loughgiel 0.9

Loughgiel went on the attack straight away but Carey's full back cleared his lines and Carey made their way up the other end of the pitch to add a point. A goalkeeping mistake led to a goal for the visitors half a minute later but Carey replied quickly with a point by Ciaran McCaughan, set up by Patrick McBride. Following a couple of wides Loughgiel added 2 further points before a sideline by Kevin Murphy was blocked down by the keeper only to fall to Patrick McBride who sent it into the back of the net. Carey added another point from a free but Loughgiel replied with a goal approaching 9 and a half minutes to leave just 1 between the sides in favour of the home team. In an exciting spell of play Carey pointed and Loughgiel converted a 25 metre free, Carey then hit the post but Kevin Murphy found the rebounded ball and sent it over the bar. Play then went straight up the other end of the field and Loughgiel got 2 very quick goals, 1 of which the keeper misjudged and put his hand up but it dropped in over his head. With play just going from one end of the pitch to the other within less than a minute Carey also found the back of the net to leave a point between the sides once more but this time in favour of the visitors with 15 minutes played. Carey converted a free to level proceedings but Loughgiel added a point 2 minutes later. Loughgiel converted a free after 22 minutes to keep 2 between the sides. Oisin's were awarded a penalty after 26 and a half mins which no.12 sent over the bar and within 30 seconds no.12 tagged on another point. Carey replied straight away and went down the other end of the pitch for Ciaran McCaughan to find the back of the net to trail by just 1. Half time score: Glenariffe Oisins 1.9 Carey 1.7

Carey hit a wide and at the other end of the pitch Carey's goalie is forced to make 2 saves before Oisins get 3 quick points before the 5 min mark. Carey reply with a point by Ciaran McCaughan and then at the 6 and a half min mark Colin Smyth takes on a few players and young Patrick McBride runs in and finishes off the move by finding the back of the net. Approaching 8 mins Oisin's got their 14th point of the match but then it was all Carey on the attack for the next 5 mins with Colin Smyth working very hard for a point after 9 and a half mins and then adding another 2 mins later. Colin found the back of the net at the 13 min mark after Conleth McVeigh started the move with a nice lift and pass into Colly, the ball then nearly went out but Conleth McVeigh had made a run in and kept it in, pulled it across the goal line and Colly finished the move to give Carey a 2 point lead. Glenariffe hit a couple of wides in the following minutes of play and then scored a controversial wide which seemed to drop in for a point but was claimed to have went in through a hole in the net for a goal instead. Carey pointed a 65' approaching 21 mins to level things but Oisins replied with 2 points. Carey then pointed a free and then added a quick point from play yo level things once again. Almost immediately, within 30 seconds, Glenariffe found the back of the net again with their second controversial goal of the match through this hole in the net. Half a minute later Oisins added a point to lead by 7 but Carey finished strongly and a good pass by Colly Smyth assisted Conleth McVeigh to find the back of the net on the stroke of half time.
